In a recent segment on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," host Al Sharpton raised concerns about the silence from Democrats regarding anti-Israel protests on college campuses, comparing them to the events of January 6th. Sharpton argued that by not denouncing these demonstrations, Democrats risked losing the "moral high ground."

During the segment, footage was shown of police moving in on an anti-Israel encampment at UCLA, prompting host Joe Scarborough to call on Democrats to speak out against such protests. Sharpton echoed Scarborough's sentiments, questioning how Democrats could condemn the events of January 6th while turning a blind eye to similar scenes unfolding on college campuses.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski also made a parallel between the two instances, expressing her alarm at the protests and criticizing universities for not taking action. She maintained that the footage resembled the chaos witnessed at the U.S. Capitol, emphasizing the negative impact on the students.

Sharpton further highlighted his concerns by stating that the protesters had lost sight of their original cause and had instead made the demonstrations about themselves. He argued that when the focus shifted from the message to the actions of the protesters, their sincerity could be called into question.

"It's about them, it's not about pushing the cause," Sharpton said. He urged the demonstrators to reevaluate their methods and refocus on the issues in Gaza and Israel, such as the welfare of innocent civilians, especially women and children.

The MSNBC host also suggested that outside agitators may have contributed to the escalation of the protests. Reports revealed that police encountered resistance when approaching the UCLA encampment, with protesters shining bright flashlights into officers' eyes. Officers subsequently detained multiple individuals, using zip ties to secure their hands.

This segment on "Morning Joe" has sparked a broader discussion about the need for Democrats to address the anti-Israel protests on college campuses and reaffirm their commitment to condemning violent demonstrations regardless of political affiliations.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how Democrats will respond to the calls for action and whether they will address these protests in order to maintain their claimed moral high ground.
