In a heartbreaking plea for information, a mother in Lancaster demanded answers after her son became one of multiple victims in a series of shootings that occurred within a span of 24 hours. The incidents left four people dead and several others injured in separate locations across the city.
Sharon Jones, the distraught mother, expressed her frustration outside the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lancaster station, stating that she had received no updates on her son's condition. "It's not fair," she exclaimed, urgently seeking information about her son's wellbeing. Jones stressed her desperate need for answers, declaring, "I want to know about my son, point blank -- that's it. That's all."
The shootings occurred over a two-day period, with Wednesday night proving to be particularly violent. In the 800 block of E Avenue J-12, two individuals were fatally shot shortly before 6 p.m. Emergency services transported them to a local hospital, but tragically, they were pronounced dead. Additionally, a number of other individuals sustained injuries in the incident, although further details surrounding their conditions were not immediately available.
The night before, Lancaster experienced three separate shootings, resulting in two fatalities and at least one injury. All four shootings took place within a few miles and a span of two hours, leading authorities to investigate possible connections between the incidents.
Expressing deep concern over the surge in violence, Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris called for increased public safety measures. Parris addressed the issue, stating that his city felt overwhelmed and lacked the necessary resources to combat the rising crime rates. He appealed to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, urging them to allocate additional law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff's Department to help bolster public safety efforts. Parris highlighted the chronic understaffing issue, remarking, "We're running at 50% of the number of deputies that we need. They knew this was going to happen. For whatever reason, the county will not give us enough officers to protect this community, even though we pay for it."
As the investigation into the series of shootings continues, residents of Lancaster remain on edge, anxiously awaiting updates on the incidents and hoping for swift justice. The demand for increased public safety resources underscores the urgent need to address the escalating violence and ensure the safety and security of the community.
