In a remarkable incident, a one-year-old child has been discovered alive after spending two days in a ditch near a Louisiana highway. Tragically, his four-year-old brother was found deceased just a few miles away. The children's mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, was subsequently apprehended while attempting to flee at a train station in Mississippi.

The Calcasieu Sheriff, Stitch Guillory, revealed the distressing details at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities in Louisiana were notified on Monday about a body found in the water behind the Vinton Welcome Center, a rest stop in Calcasieu Parish. The body was later identified as that of the four-year-old child. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

Prompting a call for public assistance in identifying the child, the sheriff's office released a media statement. Subsequently, a person contacted the sheriff's office claiming that they had not seen certain family members and suspecting that the deceased child could be their relative.

During the investigation, it was determined that the four-year-old had last been seen with Aaliyah N. Jack and his one-year-old sibling. However, the names of the children have not been released by the sheriff's office. Recognizing the urgency, an alert was issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for Jack. Additionally, an arrest warrant was issued for her failure to report a missing child.

Jack was taken into custody on Monday night by Meridian police officers in Mississippi, but her one-year-old son was not found with her. The Meridian police declined to comment on the case, leaving many questions unanswered.

Tuesday morning brought a glimmer of hope as a vigilant truck driver spotted the one-year-old baby off Interstate-10. The NBC affiliate KPLC of Lake Charles reported that the ditch where the baby was found is just a short distance from where his older brother's body was discovered. Remarkably, video footage captured the baby crawling towards the highway, showcasing his determination to be found.

"We looked at this one-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive. Unbelievable," expressed Sheriff Guillory. "This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway. Thank God that trucker spotted him."

Despite sustaining a few insect bites, the baby remains in good spirits, according to the sheriff. He has been taken to the hospital for evaluation and will subsequently be placed in the custody of child protective services.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the well-being of our children. As the investigation continues, authorities will be working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic ordeal while ensuring the safety and care of the surviving child.
