### Microsoft Scrambles to Address Widespread Microsoft 365 Outage

Microsoft is currently working to resolve a significant outage affecting a range of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint Online. The disruption, which began roughly six hours ago, has led to thousands of users reporting issues on Downdetector. Affected services extend to OneDrive, Purview, Copilot, and both web and desktop versions of Outlook.

The tech giant first acknowledged the problem with a notice stating, "We're investigating an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar. For more information, please refer to MO941162 in the admin center." Microsoft also confirmed that various functionalities within Outlook on the web, the Outlook desktop client, REST, and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) have been compromised, complicating access for many users.

Additional reported issues involve Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Bookings, and Microsoft Defender for Office 365, indicating the widespread nature of the outage. While Microsoft has attributed the incident to a "recent change" within its infrastructure, the company has already taken corrective measures, including deploying a fix and manually restarting a subset of affected systems.

"We've started to deploy the fix which is currently progressing through the affected environment. While this progresses, we're beginning manual restarts on a subset of machines that are in an unhealthy state," the company stated an hour ago. At this juncture, the fix has been deployed to approximately 60% of the affected environments, and efforts are ongoing to restore full functionality.

Despite the widespread service issues, Microsoft's Office service health and Microsoft 365 network health status pages report no apparent problems with network health, internet service provider availability, or customer network infrastructure.

This outage comes not long after a similar incident in July, which saw multiple Microsoft 365 and Azure services, including Intune, Entra, Power BI, and Power Platform, go offline. That nine-hour interruption was later linked to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

As Microsoft continues to address the current outage, affected users are advised to monitor the admin center for updates and additional information.
