**Main Event Drama at UFC Vegas 107 as Maycee Barber Withdraws**
UFC Vegas 107 faced a dramatic shift just moments before the anticipated main event, as Maycee Barber had to pull out of her fight against Erin Blanchfield due to medical reasons. The highly awaited match was set to headline the UFC's return to the Apex on Saturday.
The disruption began a day before the fight when Barber failed to make the 126lb weight limit, tipping the scales over the allowed weight. Despite this setback, Barber forfeited 20% of her purse to Blanchfield, allowing the fight to proceed. Tensions escalated during the ceremonial weigh-in as the two fighters engaged in a heated exchange, hurling insults back and forth. Blanchfield called Barber a clown for missing weight, reciprocating Barber's earlier insult.
Blanchfield had eyed this bout as a significant step towards title contention after her impressive win over Rose Namajunas last November. Barber, with a six-fight win streak and having not fought since last March, was looking to secure her position at the top of the flyweight division with a victory over Blanchfield.
However, just minutes before Barber's scheduled walkout, the UFC broadcast team announced that Barber had not been medically cleared to fight, leading to the cancellation of the main event. Blanchfield criticized Barber's last-minute withdrawal as "super unprofessional" but later inferred that a seizure might have been the cause, considering Barber's recent health issues.
Interestingly, Blanchfield had expressed concerns about Barber's reliability days before the event. Speaking to MMAFighting, she noted Barber's history of withdrawing from fights, stating, "There's always a worry, but that could happen with anyone at the same time."
Despite the unforeseen cancellation, Blanchfield received compensation for both her show and win money, thanks to the 20% of Barber's purse. Following the event, Blanchfield revealed she is uninterested in a re-booking of the fight and is ready to pursue a different matchup moving forward.
