Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban has recently expressed his disapproval of Tesla CEO Elon Musk after Musk promoted a show on X, formerly known as Twitter. The show in question featured an interview with podcaster Darryl Cooper, who made highly controversial statements about World War II, drawing criticism from many who interpreted the comments as sympathetic towards the Nazis. While Musk's post endorsing the show has since been deleted, it sparked a heated online exchange between Cuban and Musk.
On September 3, Elon Musk encouraged his followers to watch Tucker Carlson's latest show, which included the controversial interview with Darryl Cooper. Musk's now-deleted post simply stated, "Very interesting. Worth watching." This endorsement drew the attention of Mark Cuban, who quickly responded with a succinct, "Delete your account." Cuban's comment went viral, generating 1.6 million views, 24,000 likes, close to 2,000 reposts, and nearly 3,000 comments.
As a Jewish individual, Mark Cuban was among many who criticized Musk for promoting a show that aired views which seemed to sympathize with the Nazis. Darryl Cooper claimed that Winston Churchill was the true villain of World War II and suggested that the Nazis did not have intentions to commit mass murder. Although some comments defended the claims made in the interview, Cuban pointed out the insensitivity with which the Holocaust was described and the lack of empathy displayed by both Cooper and Carlson. Cuban said, "There was no empathy from either of them... as if talking about a recipe. The fact that they tried to convey the idea that murdering millions was humane... because the Germans had poor logistics."
Cuban's response sparked further debate among users. While some agreed with his criticism of Cooper as a "Nazi apologist," others argued that Cuban should not engage in a public argument with Musk on his own platform or accused him of seeking attention by posting the comment. Several users even suggested creating a poll to determine which entrepreneur should delete their X account.
This is not the first time Mark Cuban has taken a dig at fellow technology billionaire Elon Musk. In August, Cuban suggested that Musk had manipulated X algorithms to align with his preferences and potentially influence elections while speaking to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. Musk responded on X, stating that the platform's algorithm is "open source." Additionally, Cuban has voiced his disagreement with Musk's statements about freedom of speech on the social media platform, insinuating that Musk determines what "truths" are amplified or suppressed.
Known for his appearances on the investment show Shark Tank, Mark Cuban has been vocal in criticizing former President Donald Trump, whom Musk has expressed support for. Cuban supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 and President Joe Biden in 2020. He has also expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on X.
