### Man's Manhattan Stabbing Spree Leaves Two Dead, One Critically Wounded

In a terrifying series of events Monday morning, a man went on a stabbing spree spanning Manhattan, leaving two individuals dead and another critically injured, authorities reported. The suspect, a 51-year-old man, is now in police custody, found with blood-stained clothing and carrying two kitchen knives.

Mayor Eric Adams addressed the disturbing incident, highlighting it as a glaring example of systemic failures within the criminal justice system and beyond. "Three New Yorkers. Unprovoked attacks that left us searching for answers on how something like this could happen," the mayor commented during a news conference.

The violent spree began a little before 8:30 a.m. on West 19th Street, where a 26-year-old construction worker was fatally attacked near the Hudson River. Without any apparent motive or verbal exchange, the suspect went on to claim his second victim—a 68-year-old man fishing in the East River near East 30th Street—roughly two hours later.

The rampage continued as the suspect moved north. Around 10:55 a.m., a 36-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed near the United Nations headquarters on East 42nd Street. She remains in critical condition at a hospital. A vigilant cabdriver witnessed this third attack and promptly alerted police stationed nearby, leading to the suspect's swift apprehension.

Joseph Kenny, the New York Police Department's chief of detectives, emphasized the seemingly random nature of the attacks, noting that no words were exchanged, and no property was stolen. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attacks, which unfolded within a window of 2 1/2 hours.
