### Manhattan DA Pushes to Postpone Trump Hush Money Case Until Post-Presidency

Prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney's office have announced their intention to oppose the dismissal of President-elect Donald Trump's criminal conviction in New York. However, they have also indicated that they do not object to pausing the case until Trump leaves office in 2029.

The DA's office proposed deferring all remaining proceedings, including Trump's sentencing scheduled for November 26, until his presidential term ends. "Given the need to balance competing constitutional interests, consideration must be given to various non-dismissal options," they stated in a letter to the judge. "The People deeply respect the Office of the President and acknowledge that Defendant's inauguration will raise unprecedented legal questions."

Judge Juan Merchan is yet to decide on the next steps in the case. Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung, claimed this move as a victory for Trump and his supporters, describing the legal process as a "Witch Hunt" that could not continue.

Since July, Trump's legal team has been striving to vacate the conviction and dismiss the case, arguing that prosecutors used evidence deemed off-limits by a recent Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity. They also cited the Presidential Transition Act of 1963, which advises minimizing disruptions during the presidential transition.

Prosecutors, however, maintained that the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity does not affect Trump's conviction. They requested more time to determine "appropriate steps going forward" after Trump's election victory.

Trump was convicted in May on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, made to silence claims about a 2006 sexual encounter with Trump to boost his 2016 election bid.
