### Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attack on Nancy Pelosi's Husband
David DePape, who was convicted of assaulting and attempting to kidnap Paul Pelosi, husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following a state trial. This follows an earlier 30-year prison sentence handed down in his federal case earlier this year.
Ahead of the sentencing on Tuesday, DePape's defense team sought a new trial, but their request was ultimately denied by the court. This decision further solidifies the severity of the punishment for the violent act.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins commented on the case, noting that DePape's convictions on both federal and local levels signify the "public's unanimous condemnation" of his actions.
The violent assault occurred in October 2022 at Paul Pelosi's home in San Francisco. The attack resulted in Pelosi undergoing surgery to repair a skull fracture and significant injuries to his right arm and hands, just days before the midterm elections.
DePape's federal and state sentences reflect the serious nature of the crime and the community's clear stance against such violence.
