**Man Pleads Not Guilty in Trump Assassination Plot Case**
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of plotting to assassinate Donald Trump at a Florida golf course, entered a not guilty plea to all charges on Monday. Dressed in a beige inmate's uniform paired with a dark brown undershirt, the 58-year-old appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart for a brief hearing.
Routh, who was also sporting black, thick-rimmed glasses and was clean-shaven—quite different from his previous appearance with a white beard—was shackled at the wrists, waist, and ankles. He was escorted into the courtroom by a U.S. marshal clad in a suit and black latex gloves. At the hearing, Judge Reinhart read the counts against Routh and inquired if he understood them, to which Routh responded, "Yes, your honor."
According to federal prosecutors, Routh faces a five-count indictment for allegedly attempting to kill former President Donald J. Trump, a major Presidential candidate, on September 15. The plot was thwarted when a Secret Service agent observed Routh with a gun outside Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and opened fire before Routh could target Trump. Routh was apprehended as he tried to flee the scene.
Beyond the charge of attempted assassination, Routh is also facing indictment for allegedly assaulting a federal officer and committing three other weapons violations. If convicted on all counts, he could spend the remainder of his life in prison.
