**McCabe: Threats to Trump’s Cabinet Picks Unsurprising, Law Enforcement Responds**

In light of threats reportedly received by President-elect Trump’s Cabinet nominees, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe noted that such menaces are now routine for high-profile figures. Speaking on CNN's “The Lead,” McCabe remarked, “This has become a very, very common aspect of life for really anyone who is in a high-profile or even remotely controversial position.”

McCabe reflected on the persistence of these threats, acknowledging that they remain a consistent challenge for law enforcement. “It’s been going on for years. They probably know, 90 percent sure, that these threats, as they come in, are worthless,” McCabe added. He stressed, however, that the safety protocols remain necessary due to the potential severity of a real threat.

On Wednesday, in the run-up to the Thanksgiving holiday, at least four of Trump's appointed officials reported receiving bomb threats. Additionally, there were incidents consistent with "swatting," a practice involving false reports of serious incidents to provoke significant police responses.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s transition spokesperson and incoming press secretary, confirmed these threats through a statement shared on the social platform X. She praised the prompt action by law enforcement, stating, “President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.”

Despite the dismissive tone regarding the credibility of the threats, McCabe emphasized that each threat must be treated with utmost seriousness. He explained that while many threats may be hoaxes, the risk of not responding could have dire consequences. Local law enforcement, in particular, bears much of the burden when addressing such threats, with the FBI assisting in investigations to identify the perpetrators.

The FBI confirmed that it was aware of the threats and was actively investigating. Additionally, a White House spokesperson informed The Hill that President Biden had been briefed on the situation and indicated that the administration was working closely with federal law enforcement and Trump’s team to monitor developments. “The President and the Administration unequivocally condemn threats of political violence,” the spokesperson asserted.
