In a recent interview ahead of the British Grand Prix, Lando Norris expressed his belief that Max Verstappen should not apologize for their collision during the Austrian GP. The two drivers clashed in the closing stages of the race, resulting in damage to both of their cars. Norris was forced to retire, while Verstappen finished in fifth place despite a time penalty and pit stop for repairs.

Initially, Norris criticized Verstappen's move as "reckless" and "desperate," urging the Red Bull driver to reach out and discuss the incident. However, Norris has since tempered his feelings, admitting that his post-race comments were influenced by frustration and that he probably overreacted.

Speaking about the incident, Norris stated, "I don't expect an apology from him. I thought it was good racing. At times, maybe very close to the edge, but like I said, we've spoken about it, we've talked about it, and we're both happy to go racing again." Norris revealed that he had spoken to Verstappen twice since the race, but the details of their conversation remain private.

While Norris admitted that he had initially thought about the incident more critically, he now views it as simply a part of racing and believes that he may have overreacted. However, he avoided commenting on whether Verstappen deserved the penalty for causing the collision.

Hours later, Verstappen also commented on the incident, stating that maintaining his relationship with Norris was his top priority. He mentioned that they both enjoyed their battle on the track and agreed on most aspects of the incident, referring to it as a "silly little touch." Verstappen emphasized his commitment to fair racing and assured Norris that he had no intention of crashing him out of the way.

The stewards determined that Verstappen was predominantly at fault for the incident due to his move to the left as Norris moved his car to the outside of the corner. However, Verstappen defended his actions, citing the natural human reaction when someone dives up the inside or outside.

The collision between Norris and Verstappen has sparked a debate about the acceptability of wheel-to-wheel fights in Formula 1. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella suggested that the FIA should tighten the racing rules to prevent such incidents in the future.

Despite their on-track battles, both drivers expressed confidence that their friendship would remain intact. Norris described Verstappen as a great guy and a passionate Formula 1 enthusiast.

This weekend, Norris and Verstappen will face off again at Silverstone for Norris' home race. Verstappen remains unfazed by the potential negative reaction from the British fans and is focused on delivering a strong performance.

In their upcoming battles, both drivers have agreed to go "flat out" as they believe this approach is not only what they love to do but also beneficial for Formula 1 as a whole.

As the tension builds, fans eagerly await the thrilling showdown between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix.
