In this year's free agency, the New York Knicks find themselves caught in a difficult situation as they face the possibility of losing center Isaiah Hartenstein. The talented center, who proved his worth during the playoffs when Mitchell Robinson was injured, is set to hit the open market.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, they only have Hartenstein's Early Bird Rights, limiting their maximum offer to a four-year, $72.5 million deal. However, according to reports from Yahoo Sports, the market for Hartenstein starts at a staggering $80 million and could potentially exceed $100 million.

League executives and cap strategists project that interested rival teams will be able to offer as much as $151.6 million over the same four-year length, effectively doubling the Knicks' maximum offer. While it is unlikely that Hartenstein will command such a whopping amount, it is expected that he will attract offers in the range of $80-100 million from teams eager to acquire his services.

The Knicks, known for their desire to upgrade their center position, are now faced with limited options in a relatively weak free-agent center class. Sources suggest that the expected price range for Hartenstein is similar to that of Nic Claxton, another viable candidate, who is likely to remain with the Brooklyn Nets.

One potential target for teams in need of a center is Cavaliers All-Star Jarrett Allen, who still has two years and $40 million remaining on his contract. Allen's impressive performances alongside Donovan Mitchell during a successful run of 17 wins in 18 games have made him an attractive option for many suitors. However, sources reveal that the Cavaliers have shown little interest in entertaining offers for Allen.

As the Knicks weigh their options, their hope of retaining Hartenstein may hinge on his love for New York. While he had previously expressed a willingness to take a discount to stay with the Clippers, the opportunity did not materialize. Now, if another team presents an offer in the range of $90 million or higher, the decision may ultimately come down to Hartenstein's desire to prioritize his financial future.

Should Hartenstein opt to leave, the Knicks will be left seeking depth at another position, further complicating their offseason plans. As the free agency frenzy begins, it remains to be seen how the Knicks will navigate this challenging situation and bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
