In a shocking revelation, the Kenyan National Police announced on Monday the arrest of a 33-year-old man identified as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, whom they described as a "psychopathic serial killer with no respect for human life." The suspect has allegedly confessed to the gruesome murders of 42 women, including his own wife.
According to Mohammed Amin, chief of Kenya's National Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Khalusha's alleged killing spree began in 2022 and continued until his recent apprehension. Amin revealed these chilling details during a press conference held at DCI headquarters in Nairobi, where he also shared a photograph of Khalusha in custody.
Authorities revealed that they had been tracking Khalusha's cell phone signal, which ultimately led to his capture. Amin explained, "It is the transaction of mobile money transfer using Josphine Owino's phone number that led detectives to tracking the suspect," referring to one of the victims.
Khalusha was apprehended in the early hours of Monday morning outside a club where he had gone to watch the European soccer championship final. After his arrest, he reportedly admitted to "having lured, killed, and disposed of 42 female bodies," which included the victims of his wife and Owino.
The suspect resided in a rented one-room house merely 300 feet away from the Kware dump, an abandoned quarry filled with garbage where some of the victims' remains had been discovered earlier. Disturbingly, Khalusha was allegedly working to lure another victim, identified only as Susan, when he was apprehended.
During the press conference, the police presented various items found in Khalusha's possession, further connecting him to the murders. These items included 10 cell phones, 24 SIM cards, six men's ID cards, two women's ID cards, rubber gloves, nylon sacks, ropes, gloves, and a machete believed to have been used in dismembering some of the victims.
Last week, locals and authorities were puzzled by the discovery of mutilated remains of women aged between 18 and 30 near the Kware dump, sparking speculation of a possible cult or serial killer operating in the area. As investigations unfolded, the truth behind these gruesome murders started to emerge, sending shockwaves through the country.
In a separate, unrelated case that has gripped the nation, the trial of a doomsday cult leader facing terrorism charges over the deaths of more than 400 followers was also ongoing last week. The two cases have further unsettled the nation.
The police stated that autopsies would be conducted on the nine mutilated bodies recovered so far at the Kware dump. Additionally, they have deployed additional officers to comb through the area, ensuring no more victims have been left undiscovered.
As investigations progress, the full extent of Khalusha's alleged crimes will be revealed. This horrifying revelation serves as a reminder of the need for enhanced security measures and swift justice to protect vulnerable individuals from dangerous perpetrators.
The accused serial killer is scheduled to appear in court to face multiple charges related to the brutal murders of these innocent women, as communities across Kenya grapple with the grief and trauma caused by these heinous acts.
