### Rep. Thomas Massie Endorses Donald Trump for President in 2024
In a surprising turn of events, Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie has thrown his support behind Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential race. Massie, who previously faced criticism from Trump, expressed his endorsement in a statement on Friday, urging conservatives, libertarians, and independents to vote for the former president.
"Donald Trump will put Americans first by securing our liberties at home and preventing needless wars abroad. He will make America Healthy Again by empowering small farmers and taking on special interests that have corrupted our healthcare system," Massie declared. He also highlighted Trump's commitment to freeing Ross Ulbricht, who Massie described as "wrongfully sentenced."
Massie explained his decision further in a written comment to Fox News Digital on Sunday. He emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming election, stating, "I determined the 2024 presidential contest is too important for me not to weigh-in." Massie also cited productive conversations with both Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump as influential in his decision.
Reflecting on past events, Massie acknowledged the stark contrast between his current support for Trump and their contentious history. In March 2020, Trump had called for Massie to be ousted from the Republican Party, labeling him a "third rate Grandstander" on social media after Massie demanded a recorded vote on a COVID-19 relief bill. Despite this, Massie won a decisive victory in the June 2020 Republican primary for Kentucky's 4th Congressional District.
Interestingly, this is not Massie's first endorsement ahead of the 2024 presidential race. Last year, he supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis before DeSantis even declared his intent to run. However, DeSantis dropped out of the race in January 2024 after Trump secured a win in the Iowa caucuses and subsequently endorsed Trump.
Massie concluded his endorsement by stating his desire to realign political focus on "regular people instead of corporations and bureaucracy." He emphasized the importance of avoiding unnecessary conflicts abroad and expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to steer the nation away from the brink of war.
The Kentucky congressman's endorsement marks a significant political alignment, showcasing a united front within the GOP despite past disagreements.
