In a recent development, music icon Kanye West finds himself at the center of a lawsuit filed by a group of former employees. The legal action claims that West, along with his former chief of staff Milo Yiannopoulos, fostered a racist environment and subjected their employees to grueling working hours. The lawsuit was filed by developers who were hired to work on West's YZYVSN streaming service app, intended to promote his new albums, "Vultures" and "Vultures 2."
According to reports from TMZ, the developers were initially promised compensation of $120,000 upon completion of the app. However, the situation took a turn when the employees were coerced into signing nondisclosure agreements under the threat of losing their jobs and not receiving payment. Shockingly, some of the workers, who were minors, were forced into signing "volunteer" agreements, indicating that they would not be remunerated for their efforts.
Working primarily remotely and communicating through platforms like Slack, the developers were striving to meet a demanding deadline of May 1, 2024, for the completion of the app. However, when they approached West and Yiannopoulos for their earned wages, it is alleged that the two ignored their requests, prompting the legal action.
The former employees seek the full payment of their unpaid wages, compensation for overtime hours worked, and damages for the emotional distress they claim to have endured. Shockingly, the developers also alleged instances of racist behavior, with individuals being subjected to derogatory remarks and insulting racial slurs within the workplace.
Adding to the controversy, Kanye West's wife, Bianca Censori, was implicated in the lawsuit. It is alleged that Censori shared explicit content with one of the workers, supposedly related to the development of West's porn app. These claims arise amidst reports that Yiannopoulos resigned from Yeezy due to West's involvement in the porn studio project.
As of now, Kanye West has remained silent on the matter, and his representatives have yet to respond to requests for comment from Deadline. The lawsuit brings to light serious allegations against the music mogul, drawing attention to the need for fair treatment and a safe working environment for employees.
This legal battle remains ongoing, and its outcome will undoubtedly shape the narrative surrounding Kanye West's professional conduct and reputation moving forward.
