In response to the imminent threat of severe weather, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued a verbal state of disaster emergency proclamation. The declaration, issued on Friday, activates the Kansas Response Plan and enables expedited state agency assistance to communities affected by the storms.
According to forecasts, the state can expect strong storms starting on Friday and extending through Sunday. These storms are predicted to bring with them the potential for large hail, high winds, tornadoes, as well as the risk of flooding and flash flooding.
To ensure the safety of residents, Governor Kelly strongly advises Kansans to prepare by assembling an emergency kit and creating a family plan in case of a tornado. She also recommends staying up-to-date on the latest weather conditions by listening to NOAA weather radio or local TV and radio stations, such as 12 News.
To coordinate emergency response efforts, the Kansas Division of Emergency Management will be actively staffing the State Emergency Operations Center from Friday to Sunday. They will closely monitor the situation and provide support to counties and local responders upon request.
With this state of disaster emergency in place, Kansas is taking proactive measures to protect its residents from the potential devastation caused by severe storms. It is crucial for individuals to stay vigilant, heed warnings, and remain prepared for any emergencies that may arise during this period.
