### Kamala Harris Faces Backlash Over Lebanon Aid Amid North Carolina Hurricane Recovery
Vice President Kamala Harris faced a wave of criticism on Saturday after pledging millions of dollars in aid to Lebanon while North Carolina continues to grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Harris, who visited North Carolina to meet those affected by the hurricane and assist in assembling relief kits, also announced $157 million in aid for Lebanon, sparking outrage on social media.
Actor James Woods questioned the timing and judgment of Harris' decision, staunchly criticizing her on X (formerly Twitter), "This has to be fake. Even Kamala Harris, the gold standard of stupid, isn't stupid enough to post this," he said. "Certainly not while North Carolinians are pulling the bodies of their neighbors from the wreckage. It's simply inconceivable."
Harris defended the decision, emphasizing Lebanon's dire humanitarian situation. She specified that the funds would address essential needs such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation for civilians displaced by the recent conflict in the region. "I am concerned about the security and well-being of civilians suffering in Lebanon and will continue working to help meet the needs of all civilians there," she stated.
Nevertheless, the announcement drew swift backlash from various quarters, with many arguing that the funds should instead be directed towards domestic relief efforts in North Carolina. Congressman Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., called the announcement "tone deaf," stating, "Could this be any more tone deaf? We have Americans suffering and in danger right now after the hurricane, and this is what Kamala has to announce. America First!"
Journalist Eric Daugherty commented, "Kamala Harris' campaign-suicidal post this evening focusing on LEBANON while major disaster rescues and recovery are underway is an admission she is losing Michigan right now,” while Texas Governor Greg Abbott likened Harris' response to that of former President George W. Bush during Hurricane Katrina, saying, "This is Kamala's Katrina."
Amidst this controversy, the Biden administration continues to face criticism for its handling of Hurricane Helene's aftermath. Former President Donald Trump labeled the federal response as the "most incompetently managed 'storm,' at the federal level, ever seen before." He also disparaged both Harris and President Biden, stating, "Kamala and Sleepy Joe are universally being given POOR GRADES for the way that they are handling the Hurricane, especially in North Carolina."
