In a significant move for her White House campaign, Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, recently sat down for her first solo interview since assuming the role. Speaking with a local ABC News station in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, Harris addressed crucial topics such as the economy, gun control, and her differences from President Donald Trump.

During the 11-minute interview, Harris was asked about her plans to address rising prices for Americans. Despite a recent decline in inflation, Harris put forward a proposal to offer small-business owners a $50,000 tax deduction to stimulate entrepreneurship and a $25,000 down payment for first-time homebuyers. However, the specifics of the plan and who would qualify for these benefits remain unclear.

Regarding gun control, Harris expressed her support for constitutional gun rights while emphasizing her belief that semi-automatic weapons should be prohibited. She argued that an assault weapons ban is consistent with the Second Amendment, describing such weapons as "literally tools of war."

Harris took the opportunity to criticize Trump, stating that the American people need someone who can unite the country, rather than a leader who encourages finger-pointing. She also emphasized that she offers a "new generation of leadership" compared to the incumbent president.

Trump, in response to the interview, claimed that Harris had difficulty answering even the simplest of questions during the discussion. According to recent opinion polls, Harris and Trump are currently in a tight race in Pennsylvania and other battleground states ahead of the upcoming White House election.

It's worth noting that Harris did not mention her previous proposal for a federal ban on price gouging on food during the interview, a suggestion that faced criticism from economists and business groups, with Trump likening it to Soviet-style price controls.

The interview with the local ABC station comes shortly after Harris's successful debate with Trump, as indicated by recent opinion polls. However, the Republican candidate has declared that he will not engage in further debates with Harris, claiming his victory in the previous encounter.

As calls for more media access continue to grow, Harris previously appeared on CNN for her first interview since becoming the nominee, accompanied by her running mate Tim Walz. Furthermore, she joined Trump at an event and traveled on his plane to the presidential debate, signaling a display of unity despite their differing platforms.

As the race for the White House intensifies, Harris seeks to consolidate support in key swing states like Pennsylvania, where her interview shed light on her policy proposals surrounding the economy and gun control. With the election drawing near, the impact of these interviews and debates can be instrumental in shaping the outcome.
