During a recent appearance on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" live from the Democratic National Convention, Julia Louis-Dreyfus discussed the unexpected spike in popularity that her hit TV show, "Veep," has experienced in the wake of President Joe Biden's withdrawal from this year's election and Kamala Harris' announcement of her candidacy. Colbert mentioned that "Veep" viewership has increased by 350%, to which Louis-Dreyfus remarked, "It's a great thing, I think?"

However, Louis-Dreyfus felt the need to clarify that her character, Selina Meyer, and Kamala Harris do not share the same personality traits. On "Veep," Louis-Dreyfus played a narcissistic, megalomaniac sociopath, which is not indicative of Harris in any way. Louis-Dreyfus humorously added, "It might be another candidate in the race."

Colbert then asked which "Veep" character Louis-Dreyfus believes resembles Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance the most. She pointed to Jonah Ryan, played by Timothy Simons, who portrays Meyer's White House liaison and is known for his constant clashes with her staff. Louis-Dreyfus jokingly commented, "I'm sure he's made love to many couches."

Although "Veep" is primarily a comedy, Colbert raised the fact that it tackles the issue of the harsh treatment of women in politics. When asked if she had a favorite scene that embodied this theme, Louis-Dreyfus pointed to a memorable interaction between Meyer and Mike McLintock, played by Matt Walsh.

The surge in "Veep" popularity following recent political events highlights the show's ability to resonate with viewers in a changing political landscape. Fans continue to flock to the series, drawn by its sharp satire and captivating performances.
