A Clark County District Court judge has denied the immediate release of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, the man accused of orchestrating the murder of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur. The judge's decision was based on concerns over the source of Davis' bail, which was posted by Cash Jones, an entertainment manager who goes by the name Wack100.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Judge Carli Kierny listened to arguments presented by prosecutors and 61-year-old Davis. Prosecutors expressed their concern that Jones intended to conduct interviews with Davis both before and after his release, potentially allowing Davis to profit from his statements. This violated the judge's request for Davis not to benefit financially from the case.
Davis has been held at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest, awaiting trial. Judge Kierny made it clear that if Davis managed to come up with the required $750,000 bail amount, she would need to be informed about the source of the funds before making a decision on his release. The judge expressed her intention to review bank statements before issuing a ruling.
In public statements, Davis has claimed that he was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car involved in the drive-by shooting that took Tupac Shakur's life. At the time, Marion "Suge" Knight, the then-head of Death Row Records, was driving the vehicle, and Shakur was sitting next to him. Knight sustained injuries in the shooting.
Previously, Carl Arnold, Davis' attorney, acknowledged that his client had made false claims regarding his involvement in Shakur's murder. Arnold revealed this information to 8 News Now investigators.
The judge's decision to delay Davis' release highlights the importance of ensuring that bail funds are acquired from legitimate sources. As the legal process continues, the scrutiny of Davis' involvement in the tragic events surrounding Tupac Shakur's murder continues as well.
