### Jeep Recalls 194,000 Plug-In Hybrid SUVs Over Fire Risk
Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, has announced a recall affecting approximately 194,000 of its plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a potential fire hazard. The recall covers specific Jeep Wrangler 4xe models from the years 2020 to 2024, as well as certain Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe units from 2022 to 2024. The manufacturer has identified that around five percent of these vehicles may contain the defect that could lead to a fire.
The issue came to light after the occurrence of 13 fires, all of which happened when the vehicles were parked and turned off. Despite this alarming discovery, Stellantis has yet to instruct customers to bring their vehicles in for immediate servicing. Instead, the company assures that a solution is "imminent" and will notify owners when they can schedule a service appointment.
In the meantime, Stellantis advises that the fire risk is reduced when the battery charge level is low. Owners are therefore encouraged to refrain from recharging their vehicles. Additionally, the company recommends parking these SUVs away from structures and other vehicles as a precaution until the defect can be addressed.
The recall predominantly affects customers in the United States, with 154,032 vehicles being recalled across the nation. In Canada, just over 14,000 vehicles are impacted, while 673 vehicles are affected in Mexico. An additional 25,502 vehicles have been recalled outside of North America.
