Retired talk show host Jay Leno and his wife of nearly 45 years, Mavis Leno, were seen enjoying a night out at the premiere of Netflix's "Unfrosted" in Los Angeles. The couple appeared happy and smiling, despite the ongoing conservatorship battle surrounding Mavis' estate due to her battle with dementia.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mavis expressed that she was feeling great while attending the premiere. Jay added that he wanted to do something fun for a change and believed that people would have a great time at the movie.
Despite the challenges they are facing, Jay mentioned that he and Mavis hang out every day and have a great time together. The couple has been married for 44 years, and they seem to be doing well.
Earlier this year, Jay filed for conservatorship over Mavis' estate, citing her major neurocognitive disorders, including dementia, as the reason. In court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, it was revealed that Mavis sometimes does not recognize her husband or remember her own date of birth. She also experiences disorientation and rumination about her deceased parents.
Jay's petition was to ensure that Mavis is protected in case he cannot personally take care of her. The couple already has a living trust and a will, but those were created before Mavis developed dementia. Jay seeks to rearrange their affairs and execute an estate plan that includes a revocable trust and a will.
A licensed physician has confirmed Mavis' dementia diagnosis and stated that she has been progressively losing capacity for several years. The petition highlights that Jay is fully capable of continuing to support Mavis's physical and financial needs.
Jay and Mavis first met in 1970 at The Comedy Store and tied the knot ten years later in 1980. Despite the challenges they are facing, the couple remains committed to each other.
The conservatorship battle continues, and Jay hopes to secure Mavis's future through proper estate planning. Their love and support for one another seem unwavering, even in the face of adversity.
