In a powerful display of solidarity, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the tragic death of an Indian farm worker in the Italian parliament today. Ms. Meloni offered her heartfelt condolences to Satnam Singh, a worker who lost his life after a horrifying incident where his arm was severed by a machine, and he was callously abandoned by his employer on the roadside in Italy.

Satnam Singh, who had been toiling without legal documentation, tragically passed away last week as a result of the severe injuries sustained during the incident. The sight of him being discarded alongside his severed limb has shocked the entire nation, prompting widespread outrage and demands for justice.

Upon hearing of Singh's death, local authorities responded promptly to distress calls from his wife and friends, dispatching an air ambulance to the scene. However, despite their best efforts, Singh could not be saved. His untimely demise has become a rallying cry, triggering mass protests across the country which not only demand swift justice for Singh but also advocate for stronger labor laws in Italy.

Gurmukh Singh, the head of the Indian community in the Lazio region, expressed his anguish, saying, "He was thrown out like a dog. There is exploitation every day, we suffer it every day, it must end now." The sentiment echoes the frustration felt by many laborers who face exploitation and abuse on a daily basis in the agriculture sector.

Prime Minister Meloni forcefully spoke out against the "inhuman acts" inflicted upon Satnam Singh and pledged to ensure that those responsible face severe punishment. "These are inhumane acts that do not belong to the Italian people. I hope that this barbarity will be punished harshly," she stated, highlighting the need to address systemic abuses in the agriculture sector.

While an investigation surrounding Singh's death is underway, the incident has sparked a wider debate in Italy about the urgent need to tackle the exploitation of undocumented workers and the abuse they often face at the hands of farmers or gangmasters.

Parambar Singh, who suffered a severe eye injury in a work accident, highlighted his own struggles as a labor victim, emphasizing, "Satnam died in one day, I die every day. Because I too am a labor victim." He shared his frustration at the lack of justice and the months spent waiting for resolution.

The outcry from the tragic death of Satnam Singh has not only united communities but also shed light on the urgent need for reforms in labor laws and the protection of those employed in the agricultural sector. As Italy mourns the loss of this innocent life, the call for justice and change grows louder, pushing for a society where such inhumane acts are not tolerated.
