In a recent interview with TV personality Phil McGraw, commonly known as Dr. Phil, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his determination to carry out a ground assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, despite threats from President Joe Biden to withhold additional weapons shipments. Netanyahu emphasized that defeating Hamas in Rafah is essential for Israel's protection and future.

The exchange between President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu unfolded on Wednesday, with Biden cautioning against an attack on Rafah, a city housing over one million Palestinian civilians who have sought refuge following Israel's ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. The President warned that the US would cease supplying historically used weapons and artillery shells for dealing with such situations.

In response, Netanyahu argued that using precision weapons, like those provided by the US, is necessary to avoid civilian casualties. He emphasized that Israel may have to stand alone if it means protecting the country and eliminating the threat posed by Hamas.

Netanyahu further clarified that his goal is to eradicate all of Hamas and its battalions, citing Hamas' attempts to blackmail Israel, establish authority in Gaza, and potentially plan attacks similar to the Oct. 7 terror attack. Additionally, the Prime Minister confirmed that the objective of securing the return of hostages has remained unchanged throughout Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas.

The tension between the US and Israel over the potential assault on Rafah highlights the divergent approaches to tackling the situation in Gaza. While President Biden expresses concerns over civilian casualties, Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasizes the need to neutralize Hamas's threat completely.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether the Israeli government will proceed with its planned assault on Rafah, despite the potential repercussions from the US. The international community continues to closely monitor the conflict and calls for a peaceful resolution that prioritizes the safety of civilians on all sides.
