In a recent update, the Israeli military has announced that it is intensifying its operations in the Shujayea neighborhood east of Gaza City. The military stated that its troops are "fighting simultaneously above and below ground," aiming to eliminate terrorists and secure the area.
According to the Israeli military, a significant number of terrorists have been taken down in the past day, and a weapons storage facility was discovered within a school compound. The air force has also targeted "terror targets and armed terrorist cells," including a group on their way to attack Israeli troops.
As a result of the escalating offensive, residents in Shujayea and adjacent areas have been ordered to move southwards along the Salah al-Din Street. This displacement has affected at least 60,000 people, according to United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Reportedly, Israeli forces targeted a group of Palestinians in Gaza City who were attempting to fill water containers at a distribution point. This resulted in the deaths of four individuals from the al-Ghazi family, including a child, highlighted Al Jazeera correspondent Hind Khoudary.
The Israeli army's operation is not confined to Shujayea alone. Troops are also conducting intelligence-based operations in Rafah in southern Gaza, where numerous terrorists have been eliminated. Additionally, the army has targeted anti-tank missile posts in central Gaza.
Dujarric further revealed that a military operation in the "safe zone" area of al-Mawasi in southern Gaza has led to casualties and displacement of at least 5,000 people. Sources also reported that two people were killed in an Israeli bombing near the al-Istiqama Mosque in the al-Jnaina neighborhood east of Rafah.
Amidst the ongoing violence, Gaza's Ministry of Health has released updated figures, indicating that since October 7, at least 37,834 people have been killed, and 86,858 have been wounded in Israel's war on Gaza. In the past 24 hours alone, 40 Palestinians were killed, and 224 were injured according to the ministry.
The situation in Gaza remains critical as the Israeli military continues its operations. The displacement of tens of thousands of residents, the loss of innocent lives, and the ongoing violence highlight the urgency for international efforts to bring an end to the conflict and restore peace to the region.
