In a devastating revelation, it has been reported that Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the death of more than 40,000 Palestinians in just 320 days, since October 7. Shockingly, this includes approximately 17,000 children, accounting for 2.6 percent of all children in Gaza.
According to the data, an alarming average of 53 children have been killed every day since these attacks began, which also claim the lives of 72 men and women daily. The destruction and devastation caused by Israeli strikes have left at least 10,000 individuals missing, with most presumed to be deceased, buried under the rubble.
To comprehend the enormity of these casualties, one can draw a comparison with iconic venues and landmarks. Notably, the number of people killed in Gaza would fill up Madison Square Garden in New York City twice. The capacity of this indoor arena, known for hosting large events, is 19,500 people.
Further illustrating the scale of the tragedy, if all 40,000 victims were standing shoulder-to-shoulder in Paris, the first person would be positioned at Notre-Dame, while the last would be in Versailles, forming a line stretching 24 kilometers long. Additionally, if these 40,000 individuals joined hands, while standing apart, they could encircle the entire island of Manhattan.
The grim statistics reveal that of the 40,000 lives lost, 18.4 percent are women and 33 percent are children. Prior to October 7, Gaza had a population of two million, with nearly half being children. Astonishingly, among the casualties, almost 17,000 are young children who could fill up 550 classrooms.
It is additionally disheartening to note that more than 500 schools being used as shelters have been targeted by Israel, resulting in significant damage and destruction. As a result, Palestinian children in Gaza have missed an entire school year due to the 10 months of ongoing warfare.
The international community is expressing growing concern over these staggering numbers and the lasting impact this conflict is having on the lives of innocent civilians, particularly children. Calls for immediate intervention and a peaceful resolution are intensifying, as the world grapples with the scale of human suffering in Gaza.
