**Israeli Strikes Inflict Severe Damage on Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza**

In a series of recent Israeli airstrikes, the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabaliya was heavily damaged, leaving both patients and medical staff injured. This hospital, one of the few still operational in northern Gaza, faced intense bombardment according to local health officials.

The hospital's director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, reported continuous shelling on Monday, stating that the attacks had lasted at least three hours. Dr. Safiyeh expressed his frustration and fear, noting that the bombardment hampered medical staff from tending to injured colleagues across different floors. "I can't leave the floor I am in," he told Al Jazeera. He further added that there were injuries among the medical teams but accessing them was almost impossible due to the ongoing shelling.

The Gaza health ministry described the situation as dire, issuing a statement that it called "a distress call that may be the last." The statement highlighted extensive damage to the hospital's facilities and impeded the movement of medical personnel within the premises.

The Israeli military stated that it was investigating the reports but could not provide an immediate comment. However, they did mention that efforts were made to facilitate the evacuation of patients and staff from Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat to other facilities in northern Gaza on Sunday. The military also claimed to have delivered humanitarian aid to the hospitals but did not elaborate on the rationale behind the evacuations.

While the Israeli military has previously justified such actions by citing the presence of Hamas fighters operating in or beneath hospital grounds, these claims have been consistently denied by hospital officials. Accusations from Gazans and human rights organizations suggest that Israel is deliberately targeting essential infrastructure, including medical facilities, a charge that Israeli officials have repeatedly rejected.
