### Iranian President Criticizes Western Stance on Israel’s Actions in Meeting with Macron
In a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sharply criticized the characterization by France and other Western nations of Israel's actions as "self-defense." The discussion took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Pezeshkian questioned the legitimacy of the support given by the United States and certain Western countries to Israel's conflict actions, which he described as crimes. "By what rule can the crimes of the Zionists be justified, which the United States and certain Western countries, like France, describe as legitimate self-defense?" he asked.
Emphasizing a perceived double standard in Western policies, Pezeshkian condemned the passive stance of these countries concerning the brutality faced by innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. He argued that the lack of consistent condemnation emboldens the Zionist regime to continue its actions unchallenged.
The Iranian president highlighted Iran's measured response to Israel's recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran as a commitment to regional stability. However, he noted that Israel has escalated its offenses in Gaza and Lebanon, amplifying regional tensions and adversely affecting people across the region.
Pezeshkian urged France to utilize its influence to help stop Israel's actions, asserting that the ongoing situation in Gaza serves as a lesson on the importance of strength against potential aggressors. He suggested that Israel's current aggressive policies are an attempt to salvage its deteriorating image after its conflict in Gaza.
President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's intention to foster unity and constructive interactions both within Iran and with neighboring countries. He expressed Iran's readiness to engage in fruitful dialogues with Europe to resolve international issues, including those related to Tehran's nuclear program. Pezeshkian insisted that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons but is focusing on enhancing its conventional defense and deterrence capabilities.
Macron, acknowledging the severity of the developments in West Asia, expressed France's strong disapproval of Israel's attacks on Lebanon and confirmed his country's efforts to halt the aggression.
