### US Charges Iranian Man in Alleged Plot to Assassinate Trump
The US Department of Justice has revealed an indictment against an Iranian national, claiming he was instructed to plan the assassination of Donald Trump prior to his presidency. The indictment against 51-year-old Farhad Shakeri was unsealed on Friday, and it accuses him of being responsible for devising a plan to murder Trump.
The U.S. government reported that Shakeri has not been detained and is presumed to remain in Iran. Court documents filed in Manhattan assert that an official within Iran's Revolutionary Guard issued directives to Shakeri in September to create a surveillance and assassination scheme targeting Trump.
Attorney General Merrick Garland stated, "The Justice Department has charged an asset of the Iranian regime who was tasked by the regime to direct a network of criminal associates to further Iran's assassination plots against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump."
Additionally, the Justice Department charged two other individuals allegedly recruited to assassinate an American journalist who had been critical of Iran. Farhad Shakeri purportedly informed prosecutors that he was unable to develop a plan within the Iranian government's desired timeframe, leading officials from the Revolutionary Guard to temporarily halt the conspiracy.
The indictment also asserts that Shakeri was expected to propose a plan to eliminate Trump within seven days. Failing that, the Revolutionary Guard officials indicated that it might be more feasible to attempt the assassination after the election, under the belief that Trump would lose the race.
