In a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Iran's firm stance against aggression and emphasized that the country will not remain silent when its interests and security are threatened, according to state media reports on Wednesday. Pezeshkian criticized Israel for its involvement in the 10-month Gaza war and called on the United States and Western countries to take action against the Israeli regime, urging them to halt the alleged acts of genocide and attacks on Gaza.

The phone conversation between the two leaders comes amidst heightened tensions following the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the former leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas, in Tehran last week. Pezeshkian conveyed Iran's accusations that Israel was responsible for Haniyeh's death, joining the chorus of voices from Tehran and Iran-aligned groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

To address the escalating situation, an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was convened in Saudi Arabia at Iran's request. The meeting aims to discuss the killing of Haniyeh and the concerns surrounding the recent series of targeted assassinations targeting senior Hamas figures during the Gaza conflict.

Israeli officials have not officially claimed responsibility for Haniyeh's death. However, tensions between Iran and Israel have been mounting, with both sides accusing each other of escalating the conflict and engaging in aggressive actions.

The international community, particularly the United States and Western nations, will now face growing pressure to intervene and facilitate a ceasefire in the region. The Iranian president's strong words to Macron reflect Iran's determination to respond to what it perceives as acts of aggression against its interests and security.

As the situation in the Middle East continues to unfold, the international community will closely monitor the outcome of the OIC emergency meeting and observe any further developments that could either escalate or ease tensions in the region.
