### Iran Warns of "Unconventional Response" to Israeli Attacks, Sends Message via Qatar

Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States through Qatar, stating that any Israeli military action against Iran will result in an "unconventional response," specifically targeting Israeli infrastructure. This announcement comes in the wake of Iran's recent missile strikes against Israel, escalating the already tense regional dynamics.

In exclusive comments to Al Jazeera on Thursday, an Iranian official elaborated on the message sent to Washington, making it clear that Iran's period of "unilateral self-restraint" has come to an end. The message emphasizes that such self-restraint no longer meets Iran's national security needs. While Iran claims it does not seek a wider regional conflict, it is prepared to take robust countermeasures if provoked.

The latest escalation saw the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launch a two-wave ballistic missile attack on military and security targets in Israel. This action was framed as a response to Israeli offensives in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the killing of key figures in Hezbollah and Hamas. Despite the launch of around 200 projectiles, the Israeli military reported no casualties, crediting the interception of most missiles.

Israel has vowed to retaliate for these missile strikes, a stance supported by U.S. President Joe Biden, who affirmed Israel's right to respond. This is a departure from previous instances, such as in April, when Biden advised Israel to exercise caution following Iranian aggression.

Al Jazeera's reporter Kimberly Halkett, based in Washington, noted that Iran's message could be interpreted in multiple ways. It could serve as a deterrent or as a stark warning that any counteraction would provoke an even more significant response from Tehran.

The Iranian official also criticized Israel's recent military actions, which include sending ground troops into southern Lebanon and ongoing bombardment that has claimed over 1,000 lives and displaced more than a million people, according to Lebanese authorities. Meanwhile, the protracted assault on Gaza has resulted in widespread displacement and a severe humanitarian crisis, with over 41,000 fatalities reported by Palestinian officials.

Iranian affairs specialist Tohid Asadi stated that Iran's latest statements reflect a dual stance. While Iran expresses no desire for a full-scale conflict, it asserts preparedness for severe retaliation if necessary. Military analyst Elijah Magnier echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Iran must choose between preemptive engagement and waiting until it is directly targeted by Israel.

This complex and volatile situation underscores the high stakes involved and the difficult choices facing all parties in the region.
