Today marks the 30th anniversary of the devastating 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which claimed the lives of 85 people and injured many others. The attack, carried out by Iran-backed Hizballah, remains one of the largest mass murders of Jews since the Holocaust. On this solemn occasion, the global community stands together to remember the victims and combat the rising tide of antisemitism.

In a joint effort led by the United States, more than 30 countries have come together to launch the Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism. This initiative, initiated on the eve of the AMIA bombing anniversary in Buenos Aires, aims to provide practical actions that governments, international organizations, civil society groups, and individuals can take to address antisemitism whenever and wherever it occurs.

The United States, along with the European Union, the Organization of American States, the Government of Argentina, and other nations and international bodies, are actively promoting these guidelines. Their endorsement and implementation are encouraged by the international community, inviting other countries to join this important effort.

Reflecting on the alarming surge in antisemitic incidents since the October 7 attacks on Israel last year, it is evident that urgent action is required. Violent acts and hateful discourse against Jews and Jewish institutions have increased dramatically in many countries, including the United States. This rise in antisemitism goes hand in hand with a disturbing increase in Islamophobia and hate crimes against Muslims. It is crucial that governments worldwide unequivocally condemn all manifestations of hatred and work towards a more inclusive and tolerant society.

The Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism serve as a comprehensive resource for combating antisemitism in all its forms. By providing practical recommendations, this initiative empowers individuals and organizations to take meaningful steps towards countering this pervasive problem. In the spirit of unity, it is hoped that governments across the globe will rally around these guidelines and prioritize the eradication of hatred in all its forms.

As the world commemorates the 30th anniversary of the AMIA bombing, it is an opportunity to honor the memory of the victims and express solidarity with those affected. Through the implementation of the Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism, the international community reaffirms its commitment to justice and ensuring a safer and more inclusive future for all.
