### FEMA Intensifies Response Efforts Across Southeast Post-Hurricane Helene

Following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, efforts to provide aid and restore normalcy in the Southeast continue at an accelerated pace. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, adhering to President Biden’s directive, remains stationed in North Carolina to oversee recovery operations until stability is restored. Previously, Administrator Criswell had also been active in Florida and Georgia, coordinating wide-ranging relief measures.

More than 3,500 federal personnel are actively engaged in recovery work across the impacted regions, with FEMA contributing over 1,000 staff members. Essential supplies have been distributed, including over 1.9 million Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), more than 1 million liters of water, 30 generators, and 95,000 tarps to aid affected residents.

The Biden-Harris Administration has sanctioned Major Disaster declarations for Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina, allowing residents to seek federal assistance through FEMA. Disaster recovery applications are now open for people in 17 counties in Florida, 25 counties in North Carolina, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and 13 counties in South Carolina. Available assistance encompasses funds for critical supplies, home repairs, personal property restoration, and temporary housing.

The American Red Cross and other voluntary organizations have deployed over 850 disaster workers to operate shelters and provide any needed comfort, including assistance to find missing loved ones. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Crisis Cleanup are also extending support services, like search and rescue efforts, tree removal, and roof repair.

Shelters have been set up with over 1,000 people housed, and federal resources such as Disaster Medical Assistance Teams and ambulances are positioned to offer emergency medical support. Communication restoration is a focal point, with Starlink satellite systems being utilized to ensure connectivity and support for local emergency operations.

In addition to local efforts, multiple federal and volunteer organizations are collaborating to tackle the extensive impacts of the hurricane. The Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, Small Business Administration, Department of Energy, and others are deeply involved in disaster response, offering specialized assistance ranging from public health services to power restoration and debris management.

Despite the widespread devastation, comprehensive efforts continue to accelerate recovery and rehabilitation for the communities deeply affected by Hurricane Helene.
