In a significant blow to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' media empire, Infowars is set to be shut down and sold off, as stated by a bankruptcy court-appointed trustee in an emergency court filing on Sunday. This marks the end of the notorious far-right outlet that Jones has utilized to disseminate dangerous misinformation and falsehoods.

Earlier this month, a bankruptcy judge ruled that Jones' personal assets would be liquidated in order to repay the families of victims of the Sandy Hook massacre, to whom he owes nearly $1.5 billion. However, the judge initially decided not to liquidate Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, mainly due to the costly and time-consuming nature of the process.

Despite the dismissal of the bankruptcy case against Infowars, the families affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy were granted permission to pursue Jones' assets, including the media company, in state court. This resulted in a court-appointed trustee taking control of Free Speech Systems, with plans to wind down its operations and liquidate its inventory.

Unfortunately for the trustee, their efforts were stalled when one of the Sandy Hook victim's parents filed a motion in a Texas District Court, seeking custody of all Free Speech Systems' assets, including Infowars. As a result, the trustee urgently requested an emergency stay to allow for an orderly wind-down and sale process of the controversial media outlet.

Christopher Mattei, an attorney representing the Sandy Hook families in Connecticut, expressed disappointment regarding the attempt to obstruct the liquidation process. Mattei stated that the families had hoped to avoid such a situation when they argued for the Free Speech Systems/Infowars case to remain within the bankruptcy court.

"The Connecticut families are disappointed by this attempt to undercut the orderly and long overdue wind-down of Alex Jones' Infowars platform," said Mattei, emphasizing the families' commitment to seeking a fair resolution. He also highlighted the support of eight out of the nine families for an equitable distribution of Free Speech Systems' assets, as already proposed by the Chapter 7 Trustee.

Jones himself, who had previously celebrated the judge's ruling to spare Infowars' parent company from liquidation, acknowledged that the outlet's broadcasting would likely continue for a few more months before complete closure. He expressed his intention to maximize Infowars' earnings to facilitate the wind-down process.

With the trajectory set for the media empire's bankruptcy and liquidation, the controversial reign of Infowars and the dissemination of its discredited narratives may soon come to an end.
