India Condemns Iran's Supreme Leader's Comments on Treatment of Muslims

New Delhi - The Indian government has strongly criticized comments made by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei regarding the treatment of Muslims in India. In a social media post on Monday, Khamenei expressed his concern about the plight of Muslims not only in India but also in Myanmar and Gaza. India's foreign ministry labeled Khamenei's remarks as "misinformed and unacceptable," saying that the country cannot be considered oblivious to the suffering of Muslims in various parts of the world.

In response to Khamenei's comments, India's foreign ministry spokesperson stated, "We strongly deplore the comments made by the Supreme Leader of Iran. Countries should carefully review their own records before making observations about others." The spokesperson further advised countries to refrain from commenting on minority issues without considering their own situation.

This isn't the first time that Khamenei has been critical of India regarding issues related to Indian Muslims and the troubled Muslim-majority region of Kashmir. However, this recent statement has sparked a sharp rebuke from India, indicating its strong disagreement with Iran's Supreme Leader.

The Indian government has always maintained that all citizens, regardless of their religious background, enjoy full protection under the Constitution. India, with its diverse religious communities, believes in secularism and prides itself on its multi-cultural fabric.

India and Iran have historically maintained bilateral relations in many areas including trade, energy, and regional security. However, this issue could strain the ties between the two nations, especially considering India's straightforward response to Khamenei's comments.

While Khamenei's remarks have drawn attention from multiple quarters, India's condemnation highlights its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of all its citizens, regardless of their faith.

As tensions rise, it remains to be seen whether this incident will affect the overall relationship between India and Iran in the long term.
