Republican strategist Karl Rove has suggested that an endorsement from independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could have a positive impact on former President Donald Trump's campaign in crucial swing states, specifically Georgia and Arizona. In an interview with Fox News, Rove speculated that those who initially supported Trump because of his association with the Kennedy name may have been wavering after Joe Biden withdrew from the race. Although Rove acknowledged the limited number of Kennedy's followers in these states, he emphasized the potential impact of the endorsement.
Rove's comments came after insiders revealed that Kennedy had been engaged in discussions about the current state of the race. Furthermore, multiple reports have indicated that Kennedy is seriously considering dropping out of the race and endorsing Trump. Adding fuel to the speculations, Kennedy is scheduled to deliver a special speech in Arizona on Friday, the same day Trump will be present in the battleground state. According to a press release, the speech will focus on the "present historical moment and his path forward."
Trump has expressed his willingness to receive an endorsement from Kennedy, stating that he would be "honored" by it. During a phone call with "Fox & Friends," the former president praised Kennedy's dedication and integrity, highlighting the appeal of his policies to women. While it remains unclear whether Kennedy will ultimately endorse Trump, the possibility has stirred up attention in two closely contested states that played a pivotal role in Biden's narrow victory in the 2020 election.
Georgia and Arizona are anticipated to be closely contested races in the upcoming fall elections. The Cook Political Report, an election handicapper, recently adjusted its ratings in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris, who assumed the top of the ticket following Biden's withdrawal. However, The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's polling index shows Trump with a 2.7 percentage point lead in Georgia and a marginal 0.1 percentage point lead in Arizona over Harris.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, an endorsement from Kennedy could potentially sway voters and influence the outcomes in these critical swing states. Both campaigns will be closely watching the developments surrounding Kennedy's decisions, as they seek any advantage in the competitive race.
