### Illinois Man Wins $9.2 Million After Lottery Machine Malfunction
An Illinois resident unexpectedly won a $9.2 million jackpot after a lottery machine error led him to purchase a ticket for a game he hadn't intended to play.
According to the Illinois Lottery, the man, who prefers to remain anonymous, recounted the incident, stating, "It was a normal day, just like any other. I was picking up groceries at Jewel and decided to buy a lottery ticket on my way out." He had originally aimed to purchase a ticket for a different game, but the machine was stuck on the Lotto game option. "I was a bit frustrated. I said, 'What is going on? The machine won't give me the right game!'" he recalled. In the end, he opted to go ahead and buy the Lotto ticket.
To his surprise, the ticket he purchased matched all six numbers in the August 24th drawing: 2-15-21-29-42-44. The following morning, he scanned his ticket at a machine and discovered that he had won the $9.2 million prize. "When the machine showed the $9.2 million prize amount, I couldn't believe it!" he said. "I looked at my wife and she was completely speechless. We are laughing over how angry I was at the broken machine - and we're so grateful for how it all turned out."
This remarkable win marks the second-largest Lotto prize awarded in Illinois this year, as per the Illinois Lottery.
