Over the weekend, the IDF focused its operations in the southern Gaza Strip, particularly in Rafah, where heavy fighting took place. As a result, two Israeli soldiers lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries. The IDF's strategic approach against Hamas and other terrorist organizations was highlighted by Defense Minister Gallant, who emphasized the importance of attacking where the enemy is weak and defending where they plan to attack.
Acknowledging the impact of Unit 8200 on the operations in the southern Gaza Strip, Defense Minister Gallant praised the unit as a key force multiplier in the conflict. Israel remains determined to continue its efforts in neutralizing threats posed by Hamas and other extremist groups.
In a separate development, alert sirens were sounded in northern Israel, indicating a possible drone incursion. The IDF is on high alert to respond to any potential threat and has called for unity among the citizenry to face such dangers. Major Gal Shabbat, 24, was also tragically killed, further adding to the fatality toll of the Gaza ground operation.
Confirming its successful air strikes, the IDF announced that senior Hamas member Azmi Abu Daqa, who played a crucial role in weapons and funds transfer for terrorist activities, was among the casualties. The conflict between Israel and Hamas has continued for over 226 days, involving ground operations, air strikes, and frequent rocket attacks. Israel remains committed to defending its citizens and dismantling the infrastructure of terrorist organizations in Gaza.
As the situation remains tense, both sides prepare for the next phase of the conflict, while international efforts for a ceasefire and lasting peace continue.
