In a video posted on X, Hungary announced its official motto, "Make Europe Great Again," for its upcoming turn as the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. The slogan, which closely resembles former US President Donald Trump's campaign phrase, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about Hungary's alignment with Trump's ideologies.

Trump, known for his close rapport with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, previously hosted him at Mar-a-Lago in March. In a series of videos posted on Orbán's Instagram account, Trump can be seen praising Orbán, stating that there is "nobody that's better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orbán."

The Hungarian Presidency also revealed a new logo alongside the "MEGA" slogan. The logo, inspired by the iconic Rubik's cube, commemorates the cube's 50th anniversary this year. It showcases the Hungarian flag on one face and the EU flag on another, symbolizing Hungary's position within the European Union.

This isn't the first time that Hungary has adopted Trump's language. In May, Orbán held the third annual American-style CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) in Hungary. During his opening speech, Orbán endorsed Trump's reelection bid and used the MAGA slogan, proclaiming, "Make America great again, make Europe great again!" Trump himself sent a pre-recorded video message to the conference, praising Orbán and commending the Hungarian patriots fighting to "rescue Western civilization."

The adoption of the "Make Europe Great Again" motto and the association with Trump has sparked both support and criticism. Some view it as a declaration of Hungary's alignment with right-wing nationalist ideologies, highlighting concerns about the state of democracy within the country. Others argue that the motto reflects a desire to reclaim Europe's past glory and promote strong leadership amidst challenging times.

As Hungary prepares to take on the EU presidency, questions surrounding the nation's approach to governance and its relationship with the European Union will undoubtedly intensify. The echoes of Trump's rhetoric in Hungarian politics raise important discussions about the future direction of not only Hungary but also the European Union as a whole.
