**Hugh Hewitt Resigns from The Washington Post After On-Air Dispute**

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt officially resigned from his role as a contributing columnist for The Washington Post on Friday. This decision followed a heated confrontation with his colleagues during a live broadcast of the newspaper's show "First Look."

The dispute unfolded during a discussion on "First Look," a show hosted by Jonathan Capehart. The topic centered around former President Donald Trump's legal challenges in battleground states. Capehart posed a question to Hewitt and Ruth Marcus, associate editor and columnist at The Post, about Trump's recent lawsuits in Pennsylvania.

Capehart questioned whether Trump's recent legal efforts were an attempt to contest the election results, specifically pointing out allegations of cheating in Bucks County. Ruth Marcus commented that "no election can be fair in Donald Trump's mind unless Donald Trump wins it," prompting Hewitt to interject.

Hewitt insisted on providing additional context, pointing out that a court had ruled in favor of the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee's bid to extend mail-in voting deadlines in Bucks County. He emphasized the importance of balanced reporting even within the opinion section, stating, "We are news people...and we have to report the whole story if we bring up part of the story."

As the conversation grew more intense, Hewitt decided to walk off the live broadcast. "I will not come back, Jonathan, how's that? I'm done," Hewitt declared, removing his earpiece and standing up from his chair.

Later, Hewitt confirmed his resignation to Fox News, noting that his column contributions were relatively infrequent, occurring about every six weeks. He joined The Washington Post in 2017 and has been one of the few conservative voices on its Opinion desk. His last column in 2024 advocated for the evolution of Trump's MAGA movement under a potential second administration.

This incident adds to a turbulent week for The Washington Post, where three members of the editorial board resigned in protest over owner Jeff Bezos' decision not to endorse a presidential candidate. This decision led to over 250,000 subscription cancellations, marking a significant upheaval for the newspaper.
