In a bid to garner support from both sides of the aisle, House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, announced his intention to push forward a national security package this week. The package includes vital funding for Israel, Ukraine, and allies in Asia, as well as humanitarian aid for civilians in Ukraine and Gaza.

For the past two months, Johnson has been facing mounting pressure from fellow Republican lawmakers to take action in support of Ukraine's defense against Russia's invasion. However, the recent attack by Iran on Israel added another layer of urgency for Johnson to secure funding for these critical allies.

Speaking on Fox News Channel's "Sunday Morning Futures," Johnson expressed his commitment to standing with Israel, stating, "The details of that package are being put together right now. We're looking at the options and all these supplemental issues."

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer echoed Johnson's sentiment, acknowledging the necessity of helping both Israel and Ukraine. Schumer revealed that President Biden held a phone call with top Republicans and Democrats, including Johnson, where consensus was reached on the need for assistance.

To ensure the passage of the aid package, Johnson has made it clear to fellow House Republicans that he will consolidate aid for Israel, Ukraine, and Asia into one comprehensive bill. Representative Mike Turner of Ohio, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, confirmed Johnson's determination to package and pass the aid through the House.

Johnson has also called for certain policy changes, including the lifting of a pause on approvals for Liquefied Natural Gas exports and demands for policy changes at the U.S.-Mexico border. However, the only package currently enjoying wide bipartisan support in Congress is the Senate-passed bill, which allocates approximately $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel.

Urgency surrounding the situation in Ukraine and the threat faced by Israel has prompted White House national security spokesman John Kirby to urge Johnson to bring the Senate-approved package to the floor as soon as possible. Kirby emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine and highlighted the challenging environment in which Israel operates.

As Johnson continues to work on advancing aid for Ukraine, he has engaged in discussions with both the White House and former President Donald Trump. In a show of support, Johnson joined Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, with Trump asserting that he has a "very good relationship" with the House Speaker. Johnson praised Trump's introduction of the loan-lease concept for aid to Ukraine, which has gained consensus among lawmakers.
