### House Ethics Committee to Review Report on Matt Gaetz Amid AG Nomination

The House Ethics Committee is set to convene on Wednesday to review its findings concerning former Representative Matt Gaetz, now under consideration by President-elect Donald Trump to assume the role of attorney general. The Committee had been delving into allegations of sexual misconduct, potential illegal drug use, and other accusations against Gaetz prior to his sudden resignation from Congress.

Gaetz's abrupt departure last week followed Trump's announcement of plans to nominate him for the attorney general position. His resignation consequently ended the House Ethics Committee's jurisdiction over the Florida congressman. The Committee had initially planned to meet last Friday to discuss the report but rescheduled the session to this week.

If confirmed as Attorney General, Gaetz would helm the Department of Justice, the very agency that had previously investigated him for possible sex trafficking of an underage girl. Although the Department of Justice did not press criminal charges in that case, and Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing, the issue remains a point of contention.

Several leading Republican senators have expressed the need for the Ethics Committee’s report to be submitted to the Senate. This would enable them to take its contents into account when deciding on Gaetz’s potential confirmation as attorney general, should Trump officially nominate him.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has voiced strong opposition to the release of the report, citing concerns about breaking protocol, tradition, and the spirit of the rule. Adding another layer to the controversy, an attorney representing a woman who alleges she had sexual relations with Gaetz while she was underage has called for the Ethics report to be made public.

This development underscores the intense scrutiny surrounding Gaetz's potential appointment to a high-profile federal position, highlighting the various ethical and legal challenges that continue to shadow his political career.
