In a devastating incident, a Hezbollah rocket struck a soccer field in the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives, including children, and leaving 34 others injured. Reports from the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service Director, Eli Bin, revealed that 17 of the injured individuals are in critical condition.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, describing the aftermath as scenes reminiscent of a battlefield. The injured, ranging from 10 to 20 years old, were provided immediate medical attention at local clinics. Responding to the tragic event, senior MDA paramedic, Idan Avshalom, said, "The scenes were difficult to watch. We began treating the injured immediately, and some were evacuated to local clinics. They are still receiving medical attention."
Eyewitnesses shared their harrowing experiences, with Nasser, a resident of Majdal Shams, recounting the moment of impact. He expressed his distress, stating, "Some children who were injured have no chance of being saved. This war needs to end. They're all little kids, playing around with scooters and bicycles, playing soccer." Nasser emphasized the chaos surrounding the incident, as no one knew the whereabouts of their children, and access to the area was restricted.
The Israeli official reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently on a visit to the United States, was receiving updates on the incident and would be holding a broad situation assessment with all security officials later on Saturday.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the rocket launch originated from Lebanon and stated, "According to an IDF situational assessment and the intelligence in our possession, the rocket launch toward Majdal Shams was carried out by the Hezbollah terrorist organization." The IDF firmly dismissed the claim made by senior Hezbollah official Mohammad Afif, who denied responsibility for the attack.
Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based militant group, is increasingly causing concern as its rocket barrages continue. Reportedly, over 100 munitions were launched during the recent attack on northern Israel, lasting for more than an hour. This follows the elimination of a member of Hezbollah's elite Radwan force in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah reported that four of its operatives were killed in strikes in southern Lebanon earlier on Saturday. The terror organization has officially acknowledged the deaths of 383 members since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, with Israeli assessments suggesting the number to be even higher.
The tragic incident in Majdal Shams serves as a grim reminder of the escalating violence in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
