### Seattle Police Officer Rescues Injured Man from Train Tracks Seconds Before Impact

In a high-risk rescue, a Seattle police officer saved an injured man from certain disaster just moments before a speeding train could hit him. The dramatic rescue was captured on body camera footage, which the Seattle Police Department released on Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred just after 9 p.m. on October 7, began when officers responded to a call about a man precariously positioned on the lower ledge of an overpass above the train tracks near King Street Station in Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle. "I want to help you and I need you to hear me when I say that," an officer tried to reassure the 57-year-old man, according to the video.

Despite the officers' efforts to talk him to safety, the man lost his footing and fell approximately 25 feet onto the rocks next to the inbound train tracks. Critically injured and unable to move, his plight became more urgent as a dispatcher’s attempt to halt inbound trains was unsuccessful; one train continued its course, unaware of the emergency.

Footage shows officers rushing to reach the man as the train’s horn blared and its headlight intensified. Officers on the lower platform sprinted across the tracks. A police officer risked his life, dragging the man out of harm's way with just seconds to spare.

The name of the brave officer has not been disclosed. The injured man, whose identity remains confidential as well, sustained multiple fractures from the fall. He received immediate medical attention from the Seattle Fire Department and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Seattle Police credited the swift actions of their officers and first responders for saving the man's life. "Due to the rescue efforts by first responders, the man survived," they said in a statement.
