In the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll, Kamala Harris continues to hold a six-point lead over former president Donald Trump nationwide. Despite a dominant debate performance and an endorsement from pop icon Taylor Swift, the poll suggests that these factors have had only a minimal impact on the voting preferences. The survey reveals that Harris leads Trump by a margin of 51% to 46% among all adults, 51% to 47% among registered voters, and 52% to 46% among likely voters. These figures remain within a percentage point of the pre-debate levels observed in previous ABC/Ipsos polling.

It is important to note that the poll analyzes the national snapshot and does not assess the campaign at the state level, which ultimately determines the winner of the Electoral College. However, the latest presidential state poll conducted by the Des Moines Register sheds light on the evolving dynamics. In June, Trump enjoyed an 18-point lead over President Joe Biden in Iowa, a traditionally deep red state. However, Harris has managed to narrow that gap significantly, with the new poll showing Trump leading by just four points, 47% to 43%, among likely Iowa voters.

The June Iowa Poll conducted before Biden ended his reelection campaign exhibited a substantial advantage for Trump, with a 50% to 32% lead over Harris. However, since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has made notable strides in gaining ground against the former president. The current poll findings indicate a significant tightening of the race, with pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co, remarking that a four-point margin is not a comfortable lead for Trump.

Selzer further adds that the latest poll results signal a change in the electorate's mood, emphasizing the potential impact of newly energized voters who may have initially considered sitting out the election. The narrowing margin in Iowa, a state that favored Trump by eight points over Biden in the 2020 presidential election, underlines the shifting dynamics and the increased competitiveness of the race.

Regarding Taylor Swift's endorsement of Harris, the ABC News/Ipsos poll suggests that it has had limited influence on voters. Only 6% of respondents claimed that the pop star's endorsement made them more likely to vote for Harris, while 13% stated that it made them less likely to support her. The majority, comprising 81% of participants, believed that Swift's endorsement had no impact on their voting decision. Notably, those who expressed a negative response were primarily Trump supporters, according to ABC.

As the race continues to develop, both candidates will need to closely monitor their standings in battleground states like Iowa, as these outcomes often play a pivotal role in determining the final outcome of the election. With Harris successfully narrowing the gap in Iowa, it signals an increasingly competitive contest in this critical swing state.
