Hamilton County Deputy Shoots Burglar During Confrontation at His Home

A Hamilton County deputy returning home from work became involved in a shooting incident with a burglar who had broken into his residence early Sunday morning, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Keith Road in Reading, prompting a response from Hamilton County deputies and Reading police officers.
During the confrontation, the deputy, using his personally owned weapon, shot 26-year-old Darrel Williams Jr. in the leg. Fortunately, Williams' injury is deemed non-life-threatening, confirmed Kyla Woods, the public information officer for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Williams managed to flee the scene but was later apprehended by Cincinnati police.
Following his arrest, Williams has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary, as stated by Woods. The motive behind the burglary attempt remains unknown at this time.
Residents of a nearby apartment complex reported hearing a single gunshot around 5 a.m., while also witnessing the presence of search dogs and drones in the vicinity. Law enforcement units from Lockland, St. Bernard, and Woodlawn were among those who responded to the incident, assisting with the investigation.
The injured burglar, Darrel Williams Jr., will receive medical attention for his leg wound before facing the legal consequences of his alleged actions. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will continue their investigation into the incident, ensuring that all relevant details are uncovered.
