In a surprising turn of events on the tax deadline day, popular tax preparer H&R Block encountered technical difficulties with its electronic filing software, leaving many users frustrated as they attempted to submit their taxes before the end of the day on April 15.
Numerous users reported encountering "bad gateway" or "502" errors when attempting to file their taxes online. The issue, which initially arose on Sunday night, continued into Monday, causing considerable inconvenience for those trying to comply with the deadline for individual income tax returns.
Reports from users and Down Detector indicated that some individuals also faced repeated charges from H&R Block for their services, exacerbating the mounting frustrations.
When contacted about the issues on Monday, H&R Block acknowledged the problem, stating that they were "aware of an issue preventing some desktop software users from e-filing their returns." However, they assured clients that those using the online platform or working with their tax professionals virtually or in person were unaffected by these technical difficulties.
The company assured clients that they were diligently working towards resolving the issue promptly. In the meantime, they urged affected users to either try filing again later in the day or opt for the traditional method of printing and mailing their tax returns if it proved more convenient.
For those encountering ongoing difficulties with H&R Block's services, eligible individuals were encouraged to explore alternative options such as TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA, both of which offer free filing services.
As taxpayers anxiously awaited a resolution to the e-filing problems, it remains to be seen how H&R Block will address the inconvenience caused to their customers during this crucial period.
