In a shocking incident at Six Flags Over Texas, guests at the theme park were forced to leap into the water after a malfunction occurred on the popular Roaring Rapids ride. A video capturing the event has since gone viral after being posted on TikTok, creating a stir among viewers.
According to a spokesperson from Six Flags, the incident took place earlier this week when one of the rafts on the Roaring Rapids ride became stuck. In an attempt to rectify the situation, guests were instructed to remain seated while the ride was restarted. However, things took an unexpected turn when the current of the water ride appeared to reverse, prompting several guests to jump into the water in an effort to exit their rafts.
The video footage begins with multiple rafts clustered together in one section of the ride in Arlington, Texas. As the water current reverses, onlookers can be heard shouting and gasping in surprise. Miraculously, all the guests managed to make it to solid ground, except for a young child who appeared to be struggling against the current. Thankfully, another rider quickly came to their aid and helped them reach safety.
Following the incident, a concerned voice in the video can be heard shouting to "get the kid," as it becomes clear that the ride will be temporarily shut down. The Six Flags spokesperson confirmed that all guests were able to safely exit the ride with no reported injuries.
The Roaring Rapids ride at Six Flags Over Texas is known for its thrilling experience, accommodating up to a dozen people in each raft. Described as a "wobbly whitewater raft" in the park's promotional material, the ride offers an exciting passage downriver, often drenching riders with cold river water and guaranteeing a fun-filled adventure.
This incident is not the first time the Roaring Rapids ride has faced scrutiny. In 1999, a tragic accident occurred when a boat overturned on the same ride, resulting in the drowning of a 28-year-old woman from Arkansas. Ten others were injured during the incident, which occurred in just 2-3 feet of water.
As the video continues to circulate online, it has sparked concern about the safety protocols and potential risks associated with water rides at amusement parks. Authorities will likely investigate the incident to ensure that similar accidents can be prevented in the future.
Six Flags Over Texas has not released any further statements regarding the incident, but it remains crucial for theme parks to prioritize the safety and well-being of their guests, particularly when it comes to popular rides such as the Roaring Rapids.
