Colorado Governor Jared Polis came to the defense of the city of Aurora amid false allegations made by former President Donald Trump regarding Venezuelan immigrants. During an appearance on "Face the Nation," Polis refuted Trump's claims that Aurora has been overrun by gangs of Venezuelan immigrants. He highlighted Aurora's diversity and rapid growth, stating that it is on track to becoming one of Colorado's top cities in the coming years.

Trump, at various rallies, has consistently targeted Aurora and Springfield, Ohio, as examples of what he perceives as failures in the Biden administration's immigration policies. Without providing concrete details, Trump has alleged that under Vice President Kamala Harris, Venezuelan gangs have taken control of entire buildings in Aurora. Governor Polis, however, has reassured the public that Aurora remains a vibrant city with over 400,000 residents, experiencing a decline in violent crimes and car thefts for two consecutive years.

In response to the personal attacks from Trump, Governor Polis highlighted his frequent presence in Aurora, emphasizing the city's positive attributes and ongoing improvements. He dismissed Trump's exaggerated claims about Venezuelan gangs and underscored the importance of electing leaders with a strong commitment to upholding the law. Polis also praised Vice President Harris for her track record in holding criminals accountable and expressed confidence in her ability to enhance public safety at a national level.

Despite the unfounded assertions made by Trump, Governor Polis remains steadfast in his support for Aurora and its diverse community. The city continues to address housing challenges due to an influx of migrants in recent years. A specialized task force within the Aurora Police Department has been established to investigate any potential connections to Venezuelan gangs. As Trump hints at a visit to Aurora in the near future, Governor Polis stands by his defense of the city, rejecting misinformation and advocating for a truthful narrative regarding Aurora's reality.
